Taylor
- Scored two goals on his debut for the Metrostars |
NEW
YORK (CMC) - Jamaican New York/New Jersey MetroStars
forward, Fabian Taylor, has been named US Major League
Soccer (MLS) Player of the Week by the Professional Soccer
Reporters Association (PSRA) for the week ending April 17.
Taylor,
24, also earned man-of-the-match honours after notching
two goals in Saturday's 3-2 Metros win over DC United at
Giants Stadium.
Taylor, who replaced Mike Magee in the game at half-time,
scored his first goal of the season and first as a Metro
just five minutes after entering the contest.
"(Taylor) made a huge difference for us today,"
MetroStars head coach, Bob Bradley, said. "The first
goal really turned things around."
Taylor became the first Metro to score a goal in his
Giants Stadium debut since John Wolyniec on August 18,
1999 in a 4-2 MetroStars loss to the Columbus Crew.
Formerly a top scorer in Jamaica with Harbour View FC,
Taylor has appeared in each of the team's first two games
this season after being signed by the team on March 3.

Led by ace striker, Onandi Lowe, and the skillful
Jermaine Johnson, Jamaica's Reggae Boyz turned in an
inspired performance to blank Uruguay, 2-0, in front
of over 25,000 spectators at the National Stadium
last night.
The
towering Rushden and Diamond striker hit a powerful
angled 25-yard freekick to beat Gustavo Munua of
Deportivo la Coruna low to his left after only 10
minutes of play. This after his strike partner,
Ricardo Fuller was brought down on one of his
mesmerising dribbles.
Jermaine
Johnson, of Oldham Athletic, made the game safe with
nine minutes to go when Tyrone Marshall - arguably
the man-of-the-match - wormed his way past two
defenders, dribbled to almost the edge of the
penalty area before cunningly slipping in the ball
Johnson, who rounded sustitute keeper, Luis Barbat,
before slotting home much to the delight of the
enraptured crowd.

Fuller facing another knee op
January 14, 2004
Preston striker Ricardo Fuller will soon be back under the
knife in order to resolve a persistent problem with his
'good' knee.
The Lilywhites' top scorer will delay the surgery until
after Jamaica's World Cup games against Haiti in June so
that he can complete the season and return in time for
pre-season training.
"It is only going to be a 10-day job," manager
Craig Brown told the Evening Post. "It is keyhole and
isn't anything major.
"He gets fluid in the joint after every game but it
is not the knee which was operated on last season, it's
the other one - his good one!"
Brown added: "Ricardo could have gone for the
operation a month ago. That would have suited Jamaica's
World Cup plans because he would have been fully fit by
the time they play their first two qualifiers.
"But I asked him to postpone it until the season
finishes for the sake of Preston North End and, to his
credit, he agreed to stick it out."

Lowe
was set up, says JFF
January
14, 2003
Jamaica's
prolific striker, Onandi Lowe, who was last week arrested,
then released on bail on suspicion of possession of drugs
in the United Kingdom, claims that he was set up, a
release from the JFF stated yesterday.
"In
his meeting with the president (Crenston Boxhill), Mr Lowe
was adamant he was set up, and continually states his
innocence and ignorance of any possible involvement with
the suspicions of the police there," the JFF release
said.
Lowe and
a 23 year-old woman were arrested last week by
Northamptonshire police on suspicion of possessing a
controlled drug with intent to supply. At
the time the police did not identify the substance
involved and the two were later released on bail pending
further inquiries.
Lowe is
set to return to the said police station on May 14.
However, Observer sources revealed that a package,
containing what is believed to be cocaine, was sent to
Lowe's address, but intended for the sender's girlfriend.
"The
package was not shipped in his name, but was intended for
the girlfriend of the sender," claimed the source,
which added: "This is a favour that was asked of
Lowe... that his address be used." But
the source made it very clear that "the 23 year-old
woman arrested was not the girlfriend of the sender."
According
to yesterday's official statement from the JFF, the
Federation was made aware of Lowe's predicament last
Friday afternoon through its president, Boxhill, who was
in London on JFF business."The president met with the
player on Saturday. A solicitor has since been procured,
from which a proper defence will be launched for Mr Lowe.
"The Federation stands by him through this difficult
period," added the release.
The
release also noted that Lowe was arrested late Tuesday
night, April 13, 2004, in England, approximately 10
minutes drive from his apartment in Rushden, where he now
resides as a contracted player to English first division
team, Coventry City.
"Onandi
was initially held in connection with a package found in a
car he was driving, on suspicion of possession of and
intent to distribute what the police there describe as a
'Class A' substance.
"He was granted bail four hours later and told to
return to the said station on May 14, 2004, as
investigations continue in the matter," the release
further stated.
Meanwhile,
Pat Garel, Lowe's personal manager, yesterday expressed
gratitude on behalf of the player and herself for the
"tremendous assistance" given to Lowe by the JFF,
through Boxhill.

Omar
Daley back in JA
September 21,
2003
LONDON
(CMC) - The young Jamaica international, Omar Daley, has
left English First Division club Reading and returned home
to rejoin his former club, Portmore United, Reading
announced on Tuesday.
The
midfielder, who will turn 23 years old on Sunday, joined
the club on a season-long loan in August, but he had been
unable to gain first-team involvement in recent months and
has now returned to the Caribbean a few weeks ahead of
schedule.
Daley,
who played for Jamaica at the 2001 FIFA (Under-20) World
Youth finals in Argentina and also appeared at last year's
CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States, made seven
substitute appearances during his time at Reading.
"Omar
came at the start of the season on a year's loan and
unfortunately never really managed to establish himself
with us," Director of Football at Reading, Nick
Hammond, told the Reading web site.
"He
was an excellent professional - never missed a day's
training and has a super attitude - but he probably found
the English game very different to what he's used to and
struggled to establish his most effective position. But he
is still young and we wish him very well in the
future," Hammond said.
Daley's
departure leaves Bermuda's Shaun Goater as the only
Caribbean player on the Reading roster.
