John, Fuller extend scoring form in English Championship
Tuesday, April 18, 2006
LONDON, England (CMC) -
Trinidad & Tobago's Stern John scored his second goal of the Easter
weekend, while Reggae Boy Ricardo Fuller continued his late-season goal-
scoring form, in the English Championship yesterday.
The 29 year-old John, who will lead T&T's charge at the World Cup in
Germany this June, was again instrumental in Coventry City's
performance, this time earning them a point against Leicester in a 1-1
draw at home.
He converted a Jamie Scowcroft pass in the 11th minute to equalise for
Coventry, after Richard Stearman had put the visitors ahead two minutes
earlier with a stunning 18-yard drive.
On Saturday, John also found the nets as Coventry beat Luton 2-1. He
now has eight goals for the season.
Fuller, meanwhile, continued his fine run of form since the start of the
year with his sixth goal of the season to help Southampton to a
comfortable 2-0 win over relegated Millwall at home at St Mary's.
The 26 year-old capitalised on Millwall's all-out push for an equaliser late
in the game, tapping into an empty net in injury time with the visitors
caught throwing everyone forward.
Fuller's strike doubled the tally for Southampton after World Cup-bound
T&T striker Kenwyne Jones gave the hosts the lead from the spot in the
13th minute after he was fouled. |
