Reno goalkeeper Dwayne Kerr will be the only uncapped player included
in Jamaica's senior football squad which leaves the island this evening for
a two-match tour of the United Kingdom.
The young goalkeeper has already been capped been capped at the
Under-17 and Under-23 level, and technical director Wendell Downswell
believe this is a chance for one of the country's young promising
goalkeepers to rise to the fore.
"This will be a very big start for him," Downswell said.
Meanwhile, speculations that midfielder Jermaine Hue would not make the
trip have been denied by Downswell, who said the Kansas City Wizard
player will not be available for the first match against Ghana because of
club committments, but will be ready for the England game.
He also believes the present group of midfielders assembled are the best
available to the country at this time.
"Only (Ricardo) Gardner is missing from this crop of players," he said.
"Jason Euell also offers a lot with his experience and the quality he
possesses make us more formidable tactically," he added.
Downswell says they are taking the games very seriously.
"We want to be worthy opponents against such strong teams, but the
players are always highly motivated and we hope they do themselves
justice... It is also a chance for us to market ourselves internationally," he
said.
Claude Davis, Jason Euele, Jamal Campbell-Rice, Marlon King and Luton
Shelton will join up with the squad at a later date.
